Ok, this is my new kole tang. He's been in quarantine now for 6 days with cupramine as I know he had ich. He's been like this since I got him and I don't think he's eating at all. What do I mean? Look at his mouth. It's been agape since the beginning. I did a freshwater dip on him before entering QT and got a few flukes off of him. I do have Prazi but I hadn't planned on that until after the 30 days in QT. I'm at a loss and worry about him! Here's a video:

It could be a couple of things. In the video he appears to be in a QT tank so I am assuming he hasn't been stung by anything or tried to chomp on a bristle worm.

It may be some sort of growth in his mouth, it could also be an infection of some sort.
You could try dosing some Epsom salt. 1 Tablespoon per 5 gallons. This could help swelling, if it not being caused by an infection. Make sure the Epsom Salt is unscented.
If it were an infection you could dose an antibiotic like Kanaplex. If you want to be extra proactive, you could use the trifecta. Metroplex, Kanaplex, and Furan-2. This would cover a very wide range of infections.
@Humblefish @4FordFamily @Maritimer @melypr1985 Thoughts on this one? I have never personally experienced this.

He was acting this way when you bought him? I think you've gotten some good advice from hotrocks on this one. It could be a growth in his mouth. I would advise you to go ahead and start prazi treatment since flukes were confirmed. Do the espsom salt just in case and be ready with the anitbiotics if the problem doesn't start getting better within a few days.

For anyone reading this: If a fish is acting this way at the store, do not buy him. Pick one that is able to close it's mouth and is not breathing so rapidly. Be sure that the fish is eating before you purchase it. You can always ask the employee to feed the fish first.

I agree with this and @HotRocks. Epsom salt is a good move here!

He wasn't like this (I don't recall anyway) at the LFS. Confirmed with the employee that he was eating although I didn't see it myself. He had just been fed prior to my arrival according to the LFS. However, it is what it is. This is what I just did:

- 30% water change
- Dropped the QT salinity to 1.022 from 1.024
- Kept Cupramine level at 0.5mg/l (tested the change water with SeaChem copper test)
- Added recommended dose of Prazipro

I'll add the epsom salts this afternoon, I have to go grab some. Will report back...

If Epsom salt doesn't work, I would dose Furan-2 + Seachem Sulfaplex. If you can't find the latter, API Triple Sulfa might work as well.

Well, he's on his side on the bottom of the tank right now, heavily breathing and looking gaunt. Doesn't look good for him.

Epsom salts going in right now.

Not good...

And he's gone.....poor little guy. Tough losing a fish, even more so since the kids already named him.

Or possibly transferred whatever he passed from to every fish in the DT.

I'm sorry for your loss, Fishdisease ... especially since I've got a kole (from Diver's Den) displaying similar symptoms, as I write this . . .
