realistically here, what would your dream tank be? i know most of us would love to have bill wanns 20k gallon reef that's the size of my bedroom but that's not real to most people.

ill start this off.

mine would be around 350 gallons and would be more of a shallow tank than a tall tank. maybe 24-30 inches tall. closed loop for flow, life reef skimmer, SB Reef Lights, true mixed reef.

would be a mix of various sps, lps, softies, sponges, NPS, nems and macro in the display with a mangrove forest in one corner. it would be laid out in a lagoon style and would have simulated low and high tides via a secondary pump and a reservoir. fish would include a single banded cat shark, several tangs, pair of clowns, anthias, as well as a small school of community fish that would live in and around the mangroves (hopefully), and several gobies/blennies.

so how about it? whats your dream tank that may actually come true one day?

I have seen many beautiful tanks from our fellow reefers here. However, I like to see them, but sometimes it does not mean I want to be the owner of them :-); My dream tank would be a tank that does not need maintenance and still looks beautiful. I have seen people with tanks that don't need water change... I am not brave enough to go that route yet, so basically I am with the weekly water change guys.

I am happy with what I have NOW. My current tank is my dream tank when I first got into this hobby. That might change in the future, but that is it for me, maybe just me. The grass is not greener on the other side for me ATM!

Around 410 in the display would be my dream tank. Shallow around 30" tall so the bottom is still relatively reachable and that would allow for plenty of space to place things. Center overflows plumbed to a fish room in the basement, huge sump with large frag tank attatched, a massive commercial skimmer so I could stock it full. I'd also say screw it on the power bill and run a halide, T5, and LED combo. Ah the fun I could have with a system like that.

Hey man thanks for curious thread!)
For my room and my space 300g will be enough for now. And I want that it will look like perfect )))
You know what your dream is beautiful I like your vision!!!;)
ive been pricing it out and planning it for a while. when I buy my house in a couple years this tank will be one of the deciding factors on which house I get lol if it doesn't have the perfect space for the tank, I wont buy the house lol

:D:D:D lol! Tell this your real estate agent )))) Btw that's really matters! Imagine you don't have enough space for the tank in your new house and then what should you do?!! Building new room?! Be upset?) No!!! If I'm writer I have to have comfortable table, bright lamp and soft chair! And sweeties )))) How can I write without it! Do I need house without appropriate room?! NO ))))

That's the main thing! It means that you will definitely realize your dream! If you are planning you already know when get the money. And you are thinking about it... that means you will find ways to realize it!

a lot of it will be DIY. and since im recently single, NO WIFE TO TELL ME NO! believe it or not, this isn't going to cost the same as a small car! lol

Just finished mine, been running for 5 months.
In wall 310 . placed right beside the boobtube. All mess an filtration is in the 12' X 12' fishroom in the garage.
I built the steel stand, that houses a 200gal sump.
I run a DIY 12'' X 48'' skimmer, Full Apex, 57 watt UV , Carbon Reactor, and a Chato roller,
All water in is gravity fed for mixing and ATO. WC's are done with a turn of a couple of valves. Water out thru a dry sink plumbed to the side yard.
Closed loop is a Hammer head hooked to an Ocean Motions 4 way,
Return is Hybrid Dart connected to 2, 1'' SeaSwirls.
Have a 30 gal Frag tank plumbed into the sump as well ,soon to be taken off line. ( for coral QT in future)

Has been 3 years in the planning and building.
Tank was DIY acrylic 54'' X 45'' X 30''

Multiple tanks, sps Dom., carpet nem w/2 clowns, seahorse/pipe/mandarin, lps, Zoa dom., predator [emoji3]

Haven't finished dreaming but so far I'm thinking
180 gallon tank
Bean animal setup

Powder Blue Tang
Yellow Tang
Blonde Naso Tang
5 Blue/Green Chromis
5 Lyretail Anthias
5 Resplendent Anthias
5 Princess Anthias

Can I count an underwater biodome bedroom, built inside an actual reef as a tank?

Realistically it would be a cylinder tank with a glass floor, and a door with a porthole into it. With 4 comfortable reading chairs and a coffee table inside. Looking up you would see the tank arch and looking down also below the glass floor. The tank would be about 6 feet in width all around, and be filled with rock wall on the outer side to provide privacy, and all along the top. in the glass floor would, under the coffee table would be a metal hatch that sealed to allow scuba maintenance of the interior of the tank. All plumbing ext would be hidden behind the live rock, and the filtration would go to the bottom to a undeground bunker that contained it.
The tank would be lit by interior underwater lighting, and the glass in the middle of the room would have a remote that adjusted the tint so as to allow control of the light level of the room.

Yea... that is a lot more realistic than a biodome in the ocean. lol

---- In truth realistically a red sea max S 400. As it is completely within the range of what I can afford, and maintain. Plus I like the styling of the tanks.

To be honest. I'm almost have my dream tank. It's almost down to no maintenence. Apex swabbie rodi hooked up to ato container. Web cam. Auto feeder. Dc pumps. Qd mp- 40. Tank is silent. Cant tell anything is on.Auto dosing. Only do a water change every 2-3 months. Working on a auto water changer. In planning stages and buying equip. But it's kinda sad. I don't know what I like more sitting in front of the tank. Or planning and building. When I'm done I'm sure I'm going to want to go to a larger tank and redo everything.

My dream tank is a FOWLR that would realistically require 400 gallons or more, since I want to keep the fish their entire lives. I'm not much of an equipment junkie, so the only planning there is GIANT SKIMMER!

I dream every day of the fish! After much research (an embarrassing amount for a tank that may never happen), these are the ones I feel could get along well enough to grow old together. I removed some fish from my initial list for being too passive (Regal angel), others for being too aggressive (Thalassoma wrasses), some for being too difficult (blue ribbon eel, ornate butterflyfish), and a few for the unspeakable sin of growing up ugly (longhorn cowfish, pinnatus batfish). Here's what I'm left with for my dream tank:

Now, I realize the Creole wrasse rarely survives in captivity, but the way I see it, by the time this tank happens (likely 10 years from now, at the least), we will have figured out a way to get this fish from the ocean into our tanks in a way that allows it to thrive. ;)

I have a 400 gallon tank now, which I am sure is a dream for a lot of people. I'm really happy with my tank. I had it built to 28.5" tall, because that's the length from my armpit to finger tip. I had a 30" tank and I couldn't reach the bottom.

I had my 400 gallon tank built with a steel frame around the top so it is entirely open top, no bracing. With a standard tank to clean the panels it was pain to not only reach into the tank but reach around the bracing to reach the panels.

And I have been very happy with my tank. But now I have some issues with the acrylic crazing. So I have started contemplating if I have to replace it, I should go bigger.

I'm not going taller. While I think taller makes for a much better looking display, I just can't deal with a tank I can't reach the bottom of.

I have the ability to go from 8' to 10' and that has become an option.

And if I go to 10' that means switching the wall the tank is on and I can go from 33" front to back to 48". But then I contemplate how is my chubby little body going to reach to the back edge of a 48" wide tank...

These are my practical options... Now if we talk about the practical dream tank...

12' long tank in the center of the room. 6' from side to side. With rock work placed down the middle of the tank, I should be able to reach the 3' from the sides of the tank to the center. And finally 28.5" tall.

Now to add to this dream I would like the tank on a hydrualic lift. I would like the tank to be able to sit low so that it could be enjoyed at eye level from couches on any side. But then at the push of a button it comes up a couple of feet so that when you have people over and you are walking around the tank oogling at all the pretty corals the tank is at eye level and you don't have to bend down.

Now to add to this dream I would like it made out of an absolutely scratch proof acrylic. Not only doesn't the acrylic scratch but it inhibits the growth of coraline and algae so you never have to wipe the tank down :)

I know that tall tanks can be a pain. My 720 gallon is 8' × 4' × 36 inches tall. It will be bare bottom with high flow. With only one side with glass I am going to try and leave the other sides alone. I will have a walking platform behind the tanks to allow access and a top down view. I have the tank height setup for viewing at a couch level. I am waterproofing the tanks and I am almost done.

One I'm currently planning to get this year: 36 gallon Elos, pair of clown fish, shrimp, and not sure what else.

Small: a shallow 10ish gallon of various saltwater shrimp (sexy shrimp, beautiful fan worms, harlequin shrimp, and others). Pink-hue Soft corals, bounce mushrooms, ricordea mushrooms, and zoas.

Largest dream tank - a tank that forms a half circle around my desk and includes the schooling fish that has blue eyes (don't remember the name).

My dream tank would be 72×36×26, 4 mp40'sqd for flow Verta L1 for return, life reef skimmer ran my a m1, i have apex already, for light it would be a floating canopy with hydra 26's and t5, i have most things already
