Just soda ash and an open floor plan/living room...no skimmer, fuge, scrubber etc.

Have you tried a CO2 scrubber? What salt do you use?
I'm using Fritz blue box RPM and I haven't - but it's something I've thought about for sure. I've also considered swapping to the red box rpm - my smaller systems do great with the blue box but for whatever reason my large system has been a fight with both alk and PH specifically.

Co2 scrubber might be the next purchase to see how it does before I make big changes to what's worked for me for so long :)

I had to select other since mine averages 7.46 pH. Now, I’m a bit surprised that the probe even works since it sat new in its box for about 7 years and the little plug that keeps the probe wet and fresh was dry and corroded. I also haven’t tried calibrating it so my measurements may be off.

I expect it is not working properly. At that pH and any alk below 8 dKH, calcium carbonate coral skeletons, rock, and sand would be dissolving.

Not sure why but my phosphate has always been incredibly high. Corals don’t seem to mind though. I never have much luck with mari tenuis or speciosa but the aquacultured ones are fine as well as any smooth acropora mari or not. Corals are growing, and colors are great.

I have been Kalk dosing for the last eight months. I started with a vat of Kalk added to RO water and added it overnight. About 4 months ago I purchased a Kalk stirrer which has turned out an easier method for me. I have seen some good growth over the last couple of months. I add AFR to maintain trace elements with a 10% water change every month.

Mine averages 8.0 up to 8.1

My ph averages between 8.2 -8.4. I run a huge RO 300 skimmer, Fuge and Calcium Reactor.
