This would is really weird. The fish was received Feb 10th. No issues 3 days prior to death. This mark appeared 2 days prior to death.
Was eating fine. No unusual symptoms. This is a friend's fish, but I found it strange, so wanted some experts opinion.

Whoa - sorry to see!
With all the tissue loss (assuming some CUC didn’t get to it after it died) I’d have to say some aggressive vibrio infection that started on the skin, perhaps with a minor injury? Uronema, a protozoan can create big lesions, but not so deep, and are usually red in color and the fish will die with its mouth wide open.
Whatever it is, it won’t be super contagious to other fish because vibrio and Uronema are both found naturally in aquariums, and only attack fish selectively (usually new fish).

That doesn’t look like a mark. It’s a big hole as it shows bone.

I'm leaning toward the fish having been attacked by something else and then this being a secondary condition resulting from the first.

I 100% agree with Jay on prognosis- appears it started with injury and developed into bacterial infection and at location slowed fish down with vibrio and passed and scavengers finished the job
Sorry to see

Thank you. I was thinking vibrio, but wanted to see what some experts think. I will let me friend know. Poor fishy. He did say the scavengers had not gotten to it.
