What kind of algae is this?

Yes but cheato is a powerhouse in comparison. There are many macros that are appealing in a reef display. If you decide on this route, I would find a type that looks appealing to me and place it directly in the display, if you don’t have tangs to bother them.

I have a blue eye tang, I had red ogo that will be here tomorrow I’m putting in the display, hopefully she has no interest in it. Maybe I will just grow chaeto anyway, even if it’s weird looking it would help with the algae which is all I’m really worried about. Plus I could pluck it frequently to feed my tang plus the blenny I plan on getting. I also think I’m gonna go for it with a emerald crab.

You can try the different macros in your hob, accompanied with the water changes and manually scrubbing the bryopsis with a brush, could work over time. If you run a skimmer, you can try carbon dosing to keep nutrients low, this can starve out your algae, making it weaker and easier to scrub off till coralline takes hold.

You may want to try this type of algae scrubber for your HOB filter. When nutrients get out of wack in my tanks algae will quickly grow on this and I just pull it off when it gets dense.

Some of us dose vinegar, vodka, sugar, or nopox as a carbon source. This will feed and multiply bacteria, the bacteria will feed on nutrients. Then the skimmer will pull out the bacteria.

Hm, this won’t harm fish or corals? How would you go about vinegar? I’ll have to look into this if things get worse maybe. I haven’t really wanted to use chemicals or anything, haven’t had to either but my skimmer is always running it doesn’t really pull anything out like it used to. It always used to be very dark n just foul now it just semi clear water.

I figured that much, I thought my skimmer was telling me I didn’t have nutrients and I believed this was Gha for a while so I did some research and came to conclusion maybe I didn’t have enough nutrients n if I increased my phosphate and Nitrate the gha would go away. That was all wrong I came to find out which I why I posted this to figure out what kind of algae it was. It hasn’t gotten worse in the past month or so but it hasn’t gotten any better. Now that is has smothered my montipora I am pretty annoyed with this crap. Thank you for your help.

No sweat reefer I’m happy to help. If your nutrients are low then scrub the heck out of those rocks. Then just form a plan to out compete the bryopsis so the nutrients don’t go right back to it

My plan I’m gonna stick to is weekly 10% water changes, scrubbing and cleaning the rocks weekly along side the w/cs. I’m gonna put ogo in the display and order some chaeto for the filter, run my skimmer 24/7 even if it’s not pulling out a lot that I can notice it sure it’s pulling out some. Just keep at it while coralline takes over which is doing currently just not as fast I’m sure it will do once I’m getting rid of the algae. And get one of those algae scrubbers that attach to the hob.

I would not unless I was starting a new tank and needed a way to seed coralline. You already have some so we just need to make it happy and it will spread like wild fire.
