What kind of leather?

I’m wondering what kind of leather this is and should it have any polyps? I have had it in my tank for about 4 weeks and it seems to be growing but I’ve never seen any polyp extension. I was told it was a toadstool but but I think it may be something different like a devils hand etc.

Devils hand for sure. With the amount of green, it may be one of the green ones.
They can close up for quite some time, but open eventually. Looks like it may not like the hammer next to it, perhaps try moving it?

Thanks, It was barely attached to any rock when I got it and I have just wedged it in a gap between two rocks on my scape. Where is the best place to position these corals and dose it need much light?

Leathers are a big fan of high light and flow.
My devil is right at the top left of the tank and in pretty high flow:

They aren’t too picky though, the thick finger lobophytum (close relative to devils hand) on the bottom left does fine in less direct flow and lower light.

Thanks I will try moving it but finding a suitable space could be a problem and getting it to attach as currently not really attached to anything.

I wonder if there is a bit of warfare between it and the other leather?
Typically runnerbanding it to a rubble or plug (the one time I tried this I killed a leather) or putting it in a pile of plugs or rubble and letting it grab on its own.
Honestly it’s in location overall in the tank is pretty good, so it might just be that it doesn’t like the other corals nearby.
I love the urchin hat btw!

Yeah it could be, I will probably leave it alone for a little while longer and see what happens. I also killed a small toadstool with a rubber band a good few months ago and it made the worst smell ever. My urchin loves his hat too, he has never bothered anything else in the tank since putting it on.
