What kind of LEDs

So I am going to make a new reef and I was wonder what light would be the best for a 40g breeder. I would like to keep it under 350. I'm sort of new to the led world so any suggestions might help. I want it to be programmable.

I have the Kessil A360WE Tuna blue on a 40 gallon tank and it is a great light. I haven't added a controller to it yet, wife will kill me if I spend another $500 on my tank, but it is in the near future. What I really liked about the Kessil lights is the shimmer they produce and it is incredible, you can check out some of BRS's videos on it on youtube.

Look for a fixture using the latest Cree or Luxeon LEDs

I hear you. Had you thought about getting a smaller tank to help with costs? There's a lot of nano tanks out there that are all-in-one and you don't have to buy other equipment to get started.

Get a full spectrum (reef breeders, reef radiance etc.) china box or two. They'll work great and are in your budget.

You can get one ocean revive t247 with a 36x24 spread. At 12" off the water.. Seen them from 160-200 and they have remotes.. Not bad for. A budget led. But don't expect. It to give you kessil/radeon light output

We have all been there.

A used 250 or 400 watt MH ballast, reflector and new bulb will cost less than 200.

Consider the Bulb replacement Annually vs Bi Annual Black Box replacement.

Just my opinion but after years of research and successful growth I would prefer a High End Cree First, MH Second and Black Box Import last.

Some Imports are an excellent value others are not. The better ones cannot guarantee their spectrum because they do not and cannot Bin their LEDs.

I'f I'm going to spent $50 to $100 for a Tyree Frag. I simply want the best light available.

Rapid LEd has the Onyx fixture which is a pretty good value, if you wanted to save even more you could go DIY, Like said earlier, cree LED's are simply the best!

I have a 20g right now and I just need a larger tank. I only have the marineland LEDs over it. So I was just hoping to piece a 40g system together. I have looked at the reefbreaders photon and for the price. I want to step to the next level. My dad is setting up a frag tank so I'm hoping i can sell a few things to help pay for system.
