Current setup is an IM25 lagoon with a kessil 360we being supplemented by 2 t5. I'm not here to argue about led as the main light source but I'm not happy with the kessil so I'm going to be running 4 t5 bulbs and I want to just run a really good led strip down the middle to provide some shimmer and white. I have a few questions,

What is the best 24" led strip I can get?

Is said best strip dimmimable? If not what is?

You can go with other led's but they won't have the same shimmer as the Kessil's

I used to run a Current USA Orbit Marine Pro strip in between my t5's. It was good but I like my Kessil / T5 much better.

At this point I'm looking for shimmer, just think a $350 kessil is overkill for just shimmer, but maybe not? I'll get my other 2 t5s mounted in canopy and check it out. I would love to sell the kessil but if no other led has their shimmer I'm in trouble. My current 2 t5 almost wash out the kessil when on

Kessil has the most natural looking shimmer in my opinion, but just about any LED will provide you shimmer (some are more disco ball than others). T5s will mute the shimmer from LEDs regardless of any LED you run with a T5...that's just a function of the diffuse light source. You used the term "wash out" which to me may mean something different than it does to you. I think of "washing out" being where a t5 bulb (usually with a lot of white in it) tends to remove the deep blue hues a lot of people like to run their LEDs at (and hence less "pop"). Of course, the t5 bulb choice will have a lot of influence on this (i.e. a coral plus will make a tank hue look much different than a blue plus or actinic bulb for instance).

I have a pretty similar setup and I think pure royal blue strips or royal blue with violets mixed in gives the best compliment to T5s. I was using TrueLumen Pro blue striplights till I upgraded to a custom LED strip of my own design. The TrueLumen are dimmable if you get the controller they sell for them. DIY is pretty easy with solderless LEDs if you want to go that route.

I might try this, I'll get around to getting my other 2 t5s into my canopy sometime this week and see how it looks
