Hi,

So I am planning after 1 year to get a new light for my small tank, as I also plan to get more corals. Currently have 1 happy mushroom as I didn't want to rush things and kill everything, it's my first tank. I want to get either Kessil A80 or AI Prime HD / AI Prime16 HD. I am leaning more to the AI as for the controls trough the app as for the kessil I would need to buy the spectral controller and the cost would be kind of the same. What do you recommend? I am mostly planing to have soft corals and mushrooms. Currently have stock lights, they are ok but I want something with a bit of more control.
Sorry for my english :P

Thanks,

Hi Sara, any of those lights should work OK given the size of your tank and the corals you are considering. Personally I'd lean more toward the AI than the Kessil. I had a that Kessil over a small refugium and I was not happy with the PAR levels it produced.

Two side comments for you.
First, allow me to say congratulations on not rushing into doing too much, too fast with the new tank. That's extremely responsible of you and something that many (maybe even most) new reefers can't do. I rushed things back when I started as well.
Second, you don't have to apologize for your English. It's very good. If you hadn't said anything, I would not have know you weren't a native English speaker. If you don't mind me asking, what is your native language?

I ask just because I'm curious. And you don't need to tell me if you don't feel comfortable sharing. I 'chat' here at R2R with a few people who come from places far away from the US (Thailand, Australia, Canada, England and most recently, Russia). I haven't traveled too much in my life, especially outside the USA. But my wife and I are retired now and starting to do some traveling. Mostly in the US (it's a big country) but we are looking at several trips to places outside the US as well.

Also my first tank, after a couple hours messing with this I can say...There's lots of options! It's way brighter then I ever imagined and I assume I'll only run about 40% or so, you have so much customization with this light its unreal, borrowing more power from LEDs not in use really makes this light pop. Tonight after work I'll try and post some pics of it as I'm dialing it in on my 26g bowfront.

Thanks, I will probably get the AI.

Well there are no shops nearby to get corals from so thats one thing, and shiping from a shop is quite expensive so if I want something I wait and buy it together, not worth buying a coral or two and paying shipping more, but quite practical for saving money and not rushing things hehe.
But I also wanted to learn everything by myself so even more reasons not to rush.

I'm from Slovenia. Our main language is Sloven, but almost everyone, as we are small, speaks either English, German or Italian. Depends which border is nearer where you live. But the auto correction also helps to write in english better:)

I'll probably get it to, just love, from what I have seen on youtube, customisation options, and the moon light for evening

Happy to try and help... anytime.

Now it's been a long, long time since I've had a geography class, so I had to look up Slovenia. Sometimes I forget how good we have it where I live. We have 5 or more LFS within a 30 minute drive and cheap delivery for online purchases.

Best of luck with the aquarium. ;)
