getting into collecting a few chalices and was wondering what lighting everyo ne is using for them. i'm currintly running an 8 bulb tek-light over my 75 for them, but i usually only have 4 bulbs on at a time. i just cant seem to get great colors out of them with my light.

I get great colors out of my TEK 6 bulb, ATI bulbs.... However, my LEDs are where its at for growth and color in my prop tank. I am getting great chalice growth response!

ATI Blue+, KZ Fiji Purple, and ATI AquaBlue Special bulbs are my recommendation!
Haven't tried LED's yet. I don't doubt they're sweet too though.

If you can, please post what you are using bulb wise and what you think you are missing and what you want.

Current T5 light combo, from back to front as of 05-10-2010
- ATI Blue + (normal)
- KZ Fiji Purple (overdriven)
- 22k AquaScience (overdriven)
- ATI Blue Special (overdriven)

I use a Tek T5 fixture over mine. Four bulbs, 48" over shallow prop. Bulbs are the ATI blue plus, true blue, 10K ( I think its coralife) and a procolor bulb in my T5. All my LPS look pretty good under that combo, I probably would have gotten a 6 bulb fixture though if I had to do it over again, just for a little more blue ratio (>1:1:). I have a few chalices growing under a 400 W 20K Radium as well but most dont like that much light even when acclimated to it.

for now....

you can spread them out differently and you can use a uvl 75 25 instead of the fiji purple. you can also use the actinic white if you like it even brighter.

Chalices dont need a lot of light. depending on your fixture you may want to throw in a UVL super actinic to drop some par and bring pop. you can use 2 uvl super actinic and it will give you similar results as one fiji purple as far as adding purple/ red to the tank. 2 uvl / 2 aquablue special/ and 2 blue plus is a really nice look with a little less punch for the corals that dont need all the par.

Then 4 strips of LED's hooked on the side of the PM.

250W DE 14K phoenix on Icecaps on a 30" tall tank. Only a few of my chalices like being in the top half. Majority do best from half way down to the floor. I've bleached several by putting them too high up :(

thanks for all the input. i have to replace bulbs here soon, so now i get to try and decide what the heck i'm gonna buy.

My friend has a ton of chalices and uses a 4 bulb fixture on his 130g and he runs 3 blue + and one fiji purple. regular water changes and they grow like mad.
