So I’m thinking that the time has come to upgrade the lighting in my 65g tank. I have added several new items over the last mont (torch coral, hammer, blasto merletti, blue sympodium, and 2 Zoa colonies). I am currently using a 36” Fluval marine and reef LED, but the light lacks a few features that I’m looking for, and I’m not entirely sure about the quality of the light. I’m looking for something with an auto dimming feature, and something of higher quality for my reef. I’m looking to be between $400-600 budget wise. What do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance!

Look into the reefbreederes photons , the SBreeflight ultras , a couple of ai primes , two kessil 360 or even 4 160s.

SB makes a 32 in black box as well. Not pretty or fancy but grows corals REAL well.

Also Jan should be huge for deals on used gear.

I have been doing a bit of research on the AI primes...what’s your opinion of them? And for a 36” tank do you think 2 of them will do the job well?

If only growing some softies and Los 2 primes would be fine. Almost any of the suggested lights above will work the reefbreeder light have caught my eyes again as of late but im not changing lights for at least a year. I currently have 2 hydra 52 hd over a 75. One of those could cover your tank

The primes should give you more poop than you have now for sure.
The coverage and look wil be different.
Three would be best for best best coverage but two should be fine.

Poke the Ai site and look for the fun calculator.

The 52 would work , it’s about the same as a black box but with better spread.

Fwiw, as many softies are high light as stony. Basically you want 80
To 100 par on the sand. And somewhere in the 300 range for higher light stuff.

For a more strip or multi emitter look like you have now , the reefbreeders and the ultra are ones to look at. Both are a LOT more powerful.
