What made you get into the hobby?

Me and my wife were just discussing how we came to love the reefing hobby and what got us started, just curious as to what made you guys start?

For us it was a simple trip to a local pet store to buy some hamster food, seen the cast of finding nemo pretty much and that just did me in. That was five years ago and were still going strong!

A weekend to myself, a couple hundred in my pocket and an accidental visit to the reef store while waiting for my haircut appointment. I left with a tank, rocks, sand, lights, a filter, some salt and a dream. 6 years later and I'm still here.

The saltwater hobby in short for me was because my friend got a nano and I wanted one. The collecting side of this hobby, seeing WWC's shop in person.

I never even thought about a fish tank until one day I got a call from a friend. He had made his own tank out of some windows, but his wife didn't want it in their house (smart girl!) So I dropped a hundred bucks and had it stock full of freshwater before my wife was home from work. It was great....for about three days! Came home from work one day to find a wet floor and and fish all over the floor. (it was probably 60-70 gallons and I managed to save a few fish). My buddy felt so guilty that he went out and bought me a real 55 gal. It lasted about a year as a planted tank ( this one was actually cycled and researched a bit). Then I made it into the reef shop looking for better plant lights and I was hooked. I found a 65 gal reef and slowly the freshie tank was taken down. Best accident ever!

The beauty of things that can b kept in saltwater. Then came the challenge of graduating from Kenya trees to sticks!
