This may be a dumb question, because I know the obvious answer= one is green and one is red/pinkish. But the green ones that I’ve seen seem to stay smaller with shorter tentacles. Idk tho, any elaborations?

Mine green ones grow huge, probably 7 clones in the tank now. Some bubble some don't, sitting right next to each other.

From my understanding BTAs will stretch out, bubble their tips, and shorten for unknown reasons sometimes. It seems to be one of those unanswered things

Oh ok! See, I’m relatively new to BTAs. One more question. How can I get it to grow faster/at all? I’m not currently feeding it, but I’m going to start tomorrow. How often and much should I give it? I’m planning on spot-feeding brine.

I would also like a straight answer about that haha
I see people here post great success feeding anywhere from every single day, to never.

Hi! I am a very varied nem feeder so I can give y’all some answers! Currently I own 4 DIFFERENT BTA (so I’m not counting clones/splits, these are all different colors and names).

I feed my RBTA every day a very large amount (as much as 2 percula clowns and a dwarf angel get). It developed HUGE bubbles and splits off 2 babies every 28 days or so, it is approximately 7-8”. Very stationary, has not moved in almost 1 yr.

My black widow I never feed. It has stayed very small and does not split often. The tentacles have shown very little/no bubbling and it moves locations often (every 3 days or so)

My CSB I feed 2-3 times a week, it has great bubbles and is a good grower (got it at 2” it is now 4-5” after 1 month). It has not split because I acquired it too recently and it is still too small. Wandered into a cave for a few days but came out. Has not moved since.

my POTO Sunset Strip I feed 2x a week. It came to me the size of a US quarter and now it is about 2 1/“-3” (recieved on 9/9/20). It is bubbling good but not great and obviously has not split. Has not moved from original spot.

all of these nems are in different tanks and are on separate systems. I feed them LRS nano reef frenzy frozen foods via aquarium tongs or my fingers depending on how deep they are in the tank. I am purposely feeding them different amounts as an experiment because I have heard different suggestions as well. Currently the results seem to be that feeding more often is the way to go

Very interesting! Thank you for this.
The piece is still frozen when you feed it?

Great question! Sorry I forgot to specify, I am feeding the POTO small still-frozen chunks. That is why it’s being fed at the sam frequency as the CSB. All the others, I feed the fish and save a larger piece for the anemone, usually this ends up being what I’m guessing to be scallop or shrimp

Ones green and one isn't. No difference outside of that.

I like that you treat your anemones like a A/B test experiment. Nice! I feed mine daily- basically throw food onto it to catch first and whatever it misses the fish get.

Thanks! I’m gonna continue it until I get a split out of either the CSB or the POTO so I have a little more data then start feeding all of them based on which did the best :)

I'd also be interested to find out by feeding the same amount, whether anemones of the same species but different color would grow and populate in different rate (think pink vs. green). I might try that myself since I have both, but my green is tiny now so I'll first need to fatten him up then we'll see.

My black widow and CSB are about the same size, I may try this in the future

First everything I have ever read says not to feed food that is still frozen.
I have over 30 BTAs currently in one tank. I have not fead any of them directly in years. I have tried feeding my green and purple BTAs in an attempt to get them to split in the past without any luck.
My nitrates are around 25 in my tank. Nitrate is a food source for them. I have 3 different colors od BTAs and the do not grow or split at the same rate. My Rainbows have become the dominant BTAs in my tank having grown large than the others while the others has shrunken in size from 14" to 4-7". The rainbows have also split naturally 60 plus times in 2 years while the others have not split at all and sadly declined in number as well as size.

Sounds like there is some fighting going on and the rainbows are winning.

To the OP the could be just different colors or different genetically. While classified as a single species we do know that there are multiple based on genetics.

For what it's worth, I don't feed mine at all and they grow and split. Some of the clones have bubbled tips and some don't.
