It always surprises me that stores like that stay afloat. Anyways, thats enough negativity lol.

Agreed. Tell you what though, I've always wanted to start a small frag shop just to compete. There is some potential here for a successful shop.

Haha, reminds me why I haven't been back to one of my lfs after they tried to sell me their "store brand" iodine supplements. I said I don't test iodine and I don't dose anything, I don't test for. He says it fine you can't overdose if you follow the directions, I say sure you can. He wasnt pleased that I wasn't buying what he was selling, and tried to persist debating with me about it. I finely said, I'll just go shop somewhere else, and left. I should mention I went in looking for a bucket of Red Sea salt mix, no supplements what so ever.

I haven't been back. A stupid thing really, but they are a pushy, used car salesman type shop. I'm lucky enough to live in an area where I have choices though..

I do too, there have been a few shops up for sale in the Valley, but some of them are asking ridiculous amounts of money for what they are offering. But its mainly because I am 20 and only have some guy and some Dave and Busters tickets to my name thanks to college payments.

Those shops are the worst. When It comes down to it, shops have to want to help their local reefing community. Be able to help out people and steer them in the right direction regardless of money. Its about having a small ecosystem thrive not selling something that will be unhappy, stressed, and die in two weeks and blaming it on water quality and not owning up to the fact that they got greedy and wanted money
 
My LFS is Joefish Aquatics. We just had hurricane Irma come thru Estero Fl and he was offering free RO drinking water to the public. His store just got power back on after ten days and is offering discounted water delivered for customers tanks plus cleanup crews and fish on sale to help people restock tanks even though he's lost a bundle . Businesses like this deserve local support. I can't say enough about this guy and his ethics.
 
It’s local... I know the water params, lighting and can make 100% sure the fish/invert is healthy before it drives 10min to my house, plus the people are cool.

Each section has a manager it's up to that manager to take care of that section. They have "sub businesses" that help set up install and maintain systems as well. They separate and treat fish and they spend a lot of time talking to you suggesting and advising

Family run business. They are all there at some point. The father is one of the best custom tank builders in Toronto. He also travels regularly to Indonesia to collect corals. The sons run thier own Aquarium maintenance business on the side. The mother probably knows more about fish and corals then anyone I've actually met in person. It is my absolute first choice when buying coral, fish, or other inverts.
My main tank is built by them and my next one will be to. It is so refreshing to walk into a store and recognize everyone, and vice versa. Unlike some other "Big" name stores I know. See what I did there. I won't name them fully.
But I will name my favorite store in the world.
