What Media for a reactor

Hello,

Besides GFO what would be good media to lower Phosphates that is ofcourse fish/coral safe?

Happy Holidays and Thanks!

I use phosguard with no issues.

Honestly gfo is the more widely used and best tested media.

I use phosguard because its white and turns tan when exhausted and easy to see mixed with carbon.

Edit
Main way i reduced phosphate was feeding less, and moving away from dry foods. Different mix of frozen foods thawed mixed with tank water and refrozen into smaller cubes.
1x a week reef chili.

I will give Phosguard a shot and I read few reviews.
I feed less ; my suspect is my skimmer not doing well.
Thanks!

Rinse it well before use, and if soft corals close up, it may be from released aluminum.

.

Actually, it isn't discoloring from phosphate binding, so gives no useful indication in that regard. It may brown if you have a lot of organics in the water that are binding, or leave it long enough for bacterial growth to become extensive. :)

Lol that is great to know. It only turns brown in my fw blackwater planted, but i dose a lot more (ei dosing + the tannins, tannins probably being the culprit) on that tank than my reef.

Reef change 4 weeks with the carbon I guess cause ive used purigen in the past I assumed a similarity.

Freshwater for many years only 3 years salty :)
