Hi! I want to remove as much Cyano as I can from my tank but I dont want to do any water changes right now, so I want to vaccum the Cyano through a filter then return the water. Is there a Micron size that stops Cyano from slipping through?
Thanks for any tips!

I had a pretty bad cyano case and used a maxijet with the hose outlet in a 50 micron sock. It worked well for me.

It seems way easier to just make more water lol

It probably is, I just dont want to change any water right now for other reasons, but if it comes down to that, then that will happen. :)

Cyano can be below 1 micron in size

Then the risk of spreading it by breaking it down through a filter and then adding it back could be high I guess.

Yeah thats what I was looking at doing, creating a siphon from my display to my sump with the outlet in a small enough filter to stop the Cyano from ret

I was thinking of stuffing a media cup with filter wool, then pushing it down a smaller micron sock for added filtration like below might work?

This is what I use and works well. A polishing filter attachment for a powerhead. Place filter in tank, blow off rocks and sand. The filter clears my 75 gallon in 2-3 hours, then remove and clean filter save for next cleaning.
Or you can get this one

MarineLand Magnum Polishing Internal Canister Filter, For aquariums Up To 97 Gallons, 10.5 IN (ML90770-00)

I have used both and they work great. I gave my magnum to a friend. The Magnum is the best.

Turn off the return pump if you want when using polishing filter. Clears up my diatoms but not sure about cyano. When filter plugs up smells bad when cleaning.

You can run it through a couple of 0.22micron filters, then run through some Protein Affinity Resin, then through some Anion/Cation Exchange Resin, then through a couple more 0.22 micron filters.

That should about do it.....

It should be fine though I would put the floss in the sock instead of the cup. It looks like it would over flow quicker.

I use a battery operated gravel vac and use the bypass output to flow through a filter sock when cleaning detritus from the sump. Should work with a fine felt sock or mesh packed into the sock. The gravel pictured is from Amazon and is 120V plug in!!! Be sure you have it plugged into and GFCI!!!!!! You can buy GFCI adapters at most big box stores to use inline with extension cords if you dont want risk tripping the circuit the tank is on.

You could also use a sediment filter, if you have an extra canister laying around, small pump with a few pieces of tubing. I use this setup for a day or two before taking PAR readings.

The way I look at this situation is that the organism is already in your system and spreading at will. The more that you can make its life tougher the better. Use the smallest micron that is convenient and practical for you and remove it from the surfaces. I have seen 10 micron recommended.
