hello all,
so I just started a 180 gallon 8 foot tank and want to add my first fish soon. I transferred all of my liverock and fish from my old 65 gallon, so it should be cycled and ready to go, but I am going to add fish slowly. Im wanting wrasses, a pair of angels, anthias, and 3 tangs. maybe some small fish, but those can probably be added whenever and not have problems. (like chromes and firefish).

So in what order should I add the main fish I want? the tangs I want is sailfin, achilles, and nano and the angels either spot breast or wantenobi (might have spelled that wrong). should they all be added at once?

thanks in advance!
Luke

I would definitely add the angels in first since the Genicanthus ones are less aggressive I believe. Then probably the naso then the sailfin and the achilles last. Not quite sure with the sailfin and naso, I think they’re interchangeable since they belong to different genera. But I would definitely put the achilles in last. Hope @4FordFamily could chime in.

I agree with this. I’d also add that a Sailfin nor Naso will be able to live out their life comfortably in a 180. They’ll outgrow it. An Achilles can as well but it’ll take a long time.

I hope this helps :)

thanks! also, even though it is 8 foot long? not trying to argue at all, but I was told that achilles needed at least 6-7 foot tank, and I oversized a bit. Was I told incorrectly? Sorry if it sounds like im trying to argue with you, its just the achilles tang is the whole reason I got that large of a tank.

I guess I cannot read. Where did you find a 180 gallon 8 foot tank? That’s interesting. The Achilles would be fine in a 6 foot tank for most of its likely life in captivity but they prefer more for sure. Sorry for missing that it was an 8 foot long tank.

I'm curious about the dimensions of the tank as well. May I ask what would be your alternative set of Tangs since @4FordFamily did not recommend the Sailfin or the Naso for your tank?

no problem! so I just want to verify, you are saying an Achilles would do fine in my aquarium for its entire life correct? does the answer for the sailfish and naso change as well? The dimensions of the tank are 96" x 24" x 18". This is a custom acrylic tank that I got used from someone. thats why the dimensions are odd.

the dimensions are 96"x 24" x 18". hmm, I haven't really thought about it much yet, but I will probably go with a purple tang if the sailfish won't work and maybe a kole tang if the naso won't work.

Yeah, it should suffice. I think you'll be fine with your selections as long as you don't add too much rock that inhibits swimming room :)

If you're going for the kole and purple, I think it would be better to introduce all 3 at the same time, since all of them are at the higher echelons of aggression in terms of tangs. Or, better yet, introduce the Kole, then the Purple and Achilles at the same time. I've heard that a Purple has the potential to beat up an Achilles when the Achilles was introduced later. Not sure if I'm right with this one @4FordFamily

thanks! ill keep that in mind, but I will probably stick with my original tang trio since @4FordFamily said they would work fine
