What Overflow box for non drilled aquarium

I have a 120 gallon tank, not drilled, and need recomendations for a good Overflow box. I really only three three types out there Eshopps, CPR and Lifereef, are there others too?


One important criteria is it must be capable of modifying to keep it as quite as possible, as the tank is in our bedroom.

I have a eshopps on my current 72. It's just a "regular" u-tube overflow. My 125 build has a CPR overflow. I had it running water and vinegar in the garage and the overflow itself is not loud, the water going into the sump is. I'm working on getting that a bit quieter.

I use the Eshopps with the U tube. I like it but my main concern is that the tube is clear and algae grows quickly inside of the tube and requires cleaning often.

I use a CPR with a durso standpipe. Since I have an all open top, I appreciate the CPR for looks as much as function.

I useda CPR for years and loved it. it was a dual 1" model. I made my own silencers for it and it was dead silent. no water trickel, no gurgle.. plus they are black and wont clog with algae.

wondering if the "Deluxe CS102 with Lid and Aqua Lifter" would be enough for a 120?

Or

"CPR Aquatic CS202 Deluxe Siphon Overflow w/ Lid & Aqua Lifter Pump". the both have the 1" bulkhead

Is this tank currently up and running?? If not why not go with a glass-holes overflow box?

But if it is te CPR boxes work well.

Im also using a eshopps 800gph overflow im am happy with it, but as of late it isn't performing as it should. And there customeer support is very lacking. I would suggest a differnt company for your overflow.

Also, when you get the CPR with the aqualifter. Be sure to use black tubing for the pump.

I have only used a lifereef myself and it is worth every cent. It doesn't rely on small pumps to restart the siphon when main pump is off. Lifereef products are not cheap but this is one area you don't want to go cheap imo. He sells silencers for them and suggest it unless you feel comfortable making your own. Eric

The CPR's are great. But you ask about tank size...that depends on the return size/strength return pump. You can PM me for how I ran mine.

I'm also a fan of the eshopps 1200 or 1800 with Gurgle Busters (http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson57268/HGB/) to control noise/air intake and water level. This kills two birds with one stone since you can control the water level/flow rate and keep the siphon from breaking (never had an issue) and (for some) gets rid of the need for gate valves which are not cheap.

I have a CPR I'm not using. It's already modded with a durso type silencer and a spray bar to go to the sump/ fuge. I live in Goodlettsville and work in Donelson if you're interested.

I have several tanks, but the CS102 is on a 75 gal. that I've had running with HOB stuff for 5 years. I converted it over to a sump about a year ago. The CS102 is a little overkill for a 75, but I find that there is very little noise and if one pipe gets clogged the other one will handle the flow. I have a Mag 7 return pump. And, by the way, we turn off all pumps for feeding at least twice a day. It's been running a year and not a single problem. I do take the aqualifter and run freshwater/air through it every couple of months like they tell you to.
