What overflow would you recommend for 40g breeder?

I’m looking to drill my 40g breeder but I was curious what overflows people recommend. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Does it include something to help you drill? Or is that bought separately? I saw a clear sheet in a picture. It had a hole in it. The clear sheet said Eshops on it. I can find the picture if that helps.

Yes it gives you the diamond drill bit and the drill guide, they make it pretty easy for you. It was my first time drilling and plumbing, I had no issue's with their product and would use it again.

exactly … my only add is be mindful of that plexiglass guide and your hole placement …
if you use the black rim as a guide your hole might be a lil lower than you want ( or not)
All depends …
…. suggest a thread x thread bulkhead with a threaded male x female slip elbow & 1” aftermarket slip strainer

that way you can at least vary the water level

so if you use one of these between the bulkhead and strainer you can rotate it to adjust the water level ….
… you will have to replace that flat strainer with this type however

Thank you! I really appreciate. So just to confirm, I would replace the flat strainer with the one above basically? Does the overflow come with a flat strainer?

yeah I think me and @Mr. Mojo Rising had the same kit:
it comes with a decent drill bit, plexiglass guide, and flat profile strainer similar to this:

… and to clarify : when you use that plexiglass drill guide it will have the hole about 1” below the rim of your standard Aqueon and Marineland black rim tanks, sounds good until you realize you now have a visible . waterline below the rim and lots of wasted volume … I tolerated it but it was also annoying

probably noticed the non-answer it’s kind of personal preference, but my waterline was too low for me. I think the kit is made for rimless tanks.
I think the rim on Aqueons adds another half inch below what was intended

I've had a pipe overflow in a 40Breeder before

Worked fine, just noisy. It was in the garage, so I didn't care about the gurgle

A couple of XAqua InOuts would be good as well. Two Little Fishies sells them still, I think. They will add extra randomized flow to the tank, at no additional cost

Ah understood. That makes a lot of sense. Are there any other options for rimmed tanks? Or would all overflows have this problem with rimmed tanks? I would think so but thought I would ask. For example, would modular Marine overflows have this problem?

I have a 40b rimmed tank...no problem with installing the overflow at the correct height. Modular Marine template tells you the correct height. One side of the template is for rimmed and you flip it over for rimmless
