This parasite has gotten into my main reef tank and is breeding very quickly. What it is and how do I get it out of the tank. The tank has coral, anemones, clams and fish.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Do they move around? Are you sure it is the same species on the fish as is on the glass?

Although I can't be sure yet, there is a free living copepod that can become a "micro-predator" or facultative parasite on fish. I have never seen them in these numbers and also never see them except in tanks that have been set up for many years.

One option would be to give the rabbitfish a FW dip (watch for its spines) and then examine the critters that fall off with a magnifying lens, and post a photo.

Another option would be to leave a piece of whole fish tied to a string overnight. Pull it out the next day while it is still dark and soak it in freshwater....and examine any dead critters that fall off.

I’m wondering if this a type of trematode you could fw dip and then treat with prazipro or general cure or formalin.
