Whenever you go from MH to LED, you want to start out low, the switch-over can be shocking to corals. Start out with a low percentage, say 30%, and ramp it up little by little from there. 10% a week is what I usually do. I know it may not seem like much, but trust me you're corals will appreciate it long term. If you have access to a par meter that would be best to check what kind of levels you have. Otherwise keep ramping it up, when you see that the corals are getting upset, crank it back by 5%, wait a week, if they're still upset crank it back another 5% and that should be your sweet spot. Good luck!Switched out 3 400W Halides (11" above the water) for 3 Xr30wG4 pros on a 220 gal SPS tank. The Radions are 9" above the water. What percentage should I run the Radions?
A fwiw, the mh at that distance probably gave the top of the tank close to full daylight par. The radions are not as powerful.I agree with crabs_mcjones, start low or you'll burn/bleach coral.
@saltyfilmfolks is my go to guy, his word is law lolWill take you guys advice as you all most likely have more experience with the different styles of lighting.
He’s a hack.@saltyfilmfolks is my go to guy, his word is law lol
30 is probably low, I agree, but I use that as a safe haven, that way no matter what the corals won't freak outI think that 30% is too low of a start from 400W MH. Id start at 50% myself but also I'm a bit of a risk taker.
I dont have radions but run my LED at close to 100%. LED's do have punch though, I grow SPS all the way to the bottom of my 210.
