This is why most people don't use API tests.

I'd say you are in the 7.8-8.0 range. However, I wouldn't argue with anyone who said 8.2 or 8.4.

I will say I am rather certain it's not 7.4 or 8.8

Somewhere between 7. 8 and 8.1 is my guess. Without a calibrated probe, well, you’re gonna struggle to know.

a probe is the only way to get a decent reading. and then you have to calibrate every once in a while
