I am looking to start culturing phyto and wanted to also try my hand at culturing pods. I think it would be a great thing for the reefing community in my area and would definitely more than sustain my tanks.

My question is, out of all of the different types of pods - which do I culture for general use?

Amphipods are easy and will grow with some live rock and biofilm on tank walls and/or marco algae for them to play in. Plus they are big and people can see them. I would avoid the free swimming pods until you can get others to grow

Rotifers multiply the fastest, but are really small. Tisbes are easy also. They tend to be the pods that are food for scooters and mandarins as they say near the bottom. Tiger pods like to suspend in the water column and end up a source for fish that swim around. Amphipods are kinda hard to find a good supply of, but have had good success with them also. I say just get 4 buckets with a 4 way splitter and do them all. Feed phyto to make the water tinted green and throw some flake food at them once in awhile. Powdered sprilinia has a super powerful stench to it, but I feed that once in awhile in small amounts. Overall if your looking to just culture one I would go with tisbes. 5 gallon bucket half full of saltwater and a slow bubbler and they will grow

completely out of curiosity. Why would u want to avoid the free swimming pods?

I find ones that cling to rock, glass and macro algae as being the easier is all.
