In the midst of deciding on equipment for my tank ( I like to plan ).

Trying to decide what power heads to get. I’m able to pick up a used mp60 non quiet drive for $400 cad.

But another one is $680 new (unless I found a new one)

Could buy mp40s for $480 new, and get 4 of them ($2000)

Or the last option I could get 4 coral box qp-16 , and use them along side my qp-9 pumps I currently have.

I’d love for my tank all run off my Apex.

It’s 72x30x30, would 2 mp60 pumps be enough? Plus the qp-9 pumps I have?

To many options here! Lol

I have a gyre 130 (I know a bit outdated now), and I love it. May be an extra $100 for the interfacing device to the Apex, but I think it’s a great Powerhead.

I like the gyres as well, but with a 30 inch yep and tall tank it may pose dead spots. I’d also have to go with the bigger models (250/280) to get the flow I want.

Or if you're bare bottom, hydrowizards, like a pair of Panta Rhei ECM 42's.

Why screw around with the small stuff? You went big with the tank, time to go big with the pumps or go home.

Look at the WAVS. $175 USD each, I have that exact same tank size and I use 4. Way too much flow at 100%, I run mine at 65-75%.

And plus they interface with your apex

Waves were an option as well, but I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews on them. But that being said, how are they noise wise?

Never had any issue. They push the same flow as a mp40. Quieter at 100% as well.
Trust me. They are the right way to go!

My word of warning about the WAV is they breakdown like clockwork at 2 years. Not only have I heard that a ton, but I've seen it happen to a buddy of mine. Literally 2 years on the mark, his first died, and within a month his second died.

Aside from that, he uses 2 for a 120g and likes them.. But you need to replace them every 2-ish years. This is why I never went for the Apec COR return pump.

Hmm. Never had issues, and I have have friends who together have 16.
I trust them completely.

Interesting! This is something Neptune has actually said -- some of their previous models (1st gen) had this issue frequently, maybe they've improved since their first release. But luck is also a thing -- I had 2 MP10's rust out on me, and so did their replacement wet sides. Another friend had 1/3 MP40's and 1/2 MP10's also rust out on him. I've been told with ecotech pumps, I have record breaking bad luck :D
