What Pump Can Truly Push Water 8 Feet

Other than Panta Rhei pumps what other power heads have you guys and gals found that can really move water over and 8 ft. span? I have an eight ft peninsula and I am too stubborn to put power heads on the far viewing pane. I have a bottom based closed loop which takes care of the bottom one third and I have the top one third managed by strategically placed return nozzles. Middle one third is my problem....tank is 43” tall.

I’m not aware of others than Tunze and Panta Rhei

I believe biggest one tunze makes is
Tunze 6580 but it’s pricy and HUGE foot print

ecm 63 is what I use.

Have you looked into gyre pumps? My Jedao cross flows do a pretty good job at 7'.

+1 on gyres

two maxspect 280’s halfway down on the sides of my 6 ft work counter sync waves. I have them at about 50% so I’m pretty confident they will do the job at 8 ft too.

Sure Have. I have four returns on the tank (one in each corner). plan on adding those soon.

I have two Maxspect 350s and I do not recommend them. They are strong (initially), they are quiet, they offer great laminar flow, and they need to be cleaned about every 2-3 weeks to maintain those accolades. I don't like fishing my powerheads out every couple weeks, so that is a dealbreaker for me.

I have an ECM 63, an MP60, and a couple MP40s on my 8' 330 that I am setting up now, cant wait to see that water movement.

If you have dual 250 and they are not hitting the other side then they need to be cleaned. My 250 blast the sand on the other end of my 7 footer.

At any rate, this is why a closed loop system is so great, but too bad most people seem to hate on them these days.

Do you think the magnets have a shot at holding on 1” acrylic?

Thanks! Will clean them tomorrow and see how it improves. I love my closed loop but being a peninsula I kept it on the bottom. In hindsight I could have snuck an outlet or two through my overflow.

The gyres need to be cleaned like every 3 weeks or so. It is a bummer but they push such a strong tight stream of water I think they are worth it.

What I have done is take a 2" pvc tube, glued a cap in one end and then tapped a plastic hook to the end. I fill it with a citric acid solution, hand it on the tank and then take the gyre and plop it in there and let it run overnight. Not as clean as taking apart and scrubbing, but works wonders.
