Hi everyone I'm on my way with my first sump build and today I ordered a Trigger Systems Emerald 26 that is approximately 20.4 gallons. Also the main tank above it is 30 gallons what type of pump do you all recommend I have 1 inch plumbing and need something to fit that as I have a threaded add on piece to connect my tubing to the pump, how many gallons per hour does it need to be? Thank you all for any advice or pumps you leave below.

Most recommendations now are for about 5x your display volume of actual return flow. So, many people will select a pump which has about double the flow rating of what they actually want, as about 1/2 is lost due to plumbing restriction and ‘head pressure’ due to gravity.

So, Assuming the 30 gal display is about 4 feet above the sump, you will want about 150 gph actual flow. I’d shop for a pump that is rated at about 300 to 350 gph. If you get a variable speed DC pump, it makes it easy to adjust, but they cost more. Some AC pumps have flow adjustments on them, which restrict the flow.

Fwiw,
Both Eheim & Sicce have good reputations.

Also,
As for your 1 inch plumbing, buy the right sized pump. Then add an adapter to reduce the plumbing to fit that pump, if needed.

Also, BRS sells silicone tubing which is very flexible, but not cheap either. Many of us buy a 1 or 2 foot piece to connect the pvc to our pumps (sometimes overflow pipes too). It makes the connection easier and reduces or eliminates vibration because of it’s flexibility. Just a little reefer truck.

I'm not sure if it's any different, or cheaper, but Home Depot also sells flexible vinyl tubing that can be used.

Vinyl is both different & cheaper. It also loses flexibility over time. To me, spending an extra $10-20 on a piece of silicone, especially at the return pump, is money well spent. Just my $0.02

3/4" should be sufficient.
Doing this for many years I highly recommend:

Sicce 3.0
Eheim 2912
Supreme aquamaster
