In case something fails, what should I have extra of? I have an extra return pump, and am thinking of selling it. My thinking is that if/when my pump goes out, I can get another at a local pet store in less than a day. Or maybe I should keep it...

I already have two heaters.

Anything else?

Spare heater, spare return pump are the two big ones IMO. I also have spare MP10 wetsides, as well as spare Hydor pumps incase of an emergency

A battery powered air pump for power outages.
That's a good one. I'll add to that either a UPS battery backup, or if your area is more prone to long power outages a portable gas generator.

The two biggest back up items would be return pump and heater.. not sure I would trust your LFS to have the size you need in stock when you need it and if you have to order one your looking at a few days minimum unless you pay for expedited shipping. I keep a couple cheap back up pumps to run a tank if needed until I can get the exact replacement.
