Hi,
I have been reading for ages and tried to plan a tank years ago. This time around as I am planning, the availability of rock is very different and mostly man-made. Sooo the question is, is all man-made rock the same? Which dry rock is recommended, and how do I determine how much I need? Like most people, I am looking for very porous rock (that does not dissolve) as well as nice looking and ability to aquascape with it. My DT is 58 gallons. Thanks!

Take a look at what Tampa Bay Saltwater has to offer ( tbsaltwater.com ) If I were to set up a new system that is almost certainly where I would get mine. By all accounts, teeming with life that you would be hard pressed to acquire any other way.

Reefcleaners has very nice rock that is very reasonable. Of course it isn't live rock. What I did was buy a hundred and some odd pounds of their rock and then bought some actual live rock from from the LFS. Put them together in my tank, added some Dr. Tim's and before you know it, actually several months, and it was all live rock.
