After the whole reef crystal fiasco, I am from now on always going to mix two types of salt. Just in case one has a bad batch again. Right now I am using tropic marin pro reef salt and seachem reef salt. I had some stn/rtn off that I associate with RC, after switching no problems. Die off would always happen right water changes.

I have used Reef Crystals for the last 4 years changed to it from IO

I used IO exclusively for mannnnyy yearssss and it seems to be a good salt, reliable and all that. Recently switched to Red Sea Coral Pro and despite whatever wacky ca/alk values it's supposed to have, I'm definitely noticing better color on the SPS, and no problems of any sort.

i am switching to seachem reef for the new tank, i have heard nothing but good about the calc levels

I just recently switched to Sea Chem Reef salt and have seen great results!! Everything is growing fantastically. Most notably, my clam has an easy 1/4"-1/2" of new growth since switching about 6 weeks ago. And for the first time my GSP is open!! I kept trying to keep it and it would never fully open and just die. Since switching salt its fully open and is super bright green!! Ohh and my birdsnest has taken on a cool iridescent pink color, used to be the normal tan color.

I'm also not seeing any ammonia as the test results show it to be higher than any other salts. My test still reads 0.

The only downfall of this salt, no one local carries it.

I've got 150g of Red Sea Coral Pro coming to me. Buddy owes me salt and he got a good deal on it soooo......

I'll give it a try and see what happens over my Instant Ocean.

Bump for new members.

I have used about all of the top brand names and have never seen one to be better than the other, in my opinion. I have always adjusted chemical levels to where I like them to be after a water change no matter what type of salt I use. For pricing I typically go with Instant Ocean.

I just started using D-D H2O Ocean Pro.
It's looking pretty good so far.

I use Reef Crystals and Natural Ocean Water. I collect Natural Ocean Water my self. I go to the ocean with buckets and jugs and start getting Natural Ocean Water around 300+ feet off the shore. I've been doing that for more than 2 years and never had a problem. I use Reef Crystals when I run out of Natural Ocean Water. :D

I started with IO for price and seemed the most popular and reliable in mix. then tried some Kent on sale do not know if they had problems at the time or not but the corals did not seem to like it. Back to IO then now on Reef Crystals.

being in Michigan i am sure jealous! Must be so nice to get water from the source!!!!!! :still_dreaming:

Have any of you ever heard of Aqua Craft brand salt? One of my friends uses it and has extremely healthy corals and I'm thinking about giving it a try.
