What salt are you using?

I use Red Sea Pro, my corals and fish love it.

Nope, still don't get it!:( What is it? Whatsit do?
I live in San Diego. The Scripps institute of oceanography , Birch aquarium and dept fish and game offer free natural sea water. Those are silica sand filters next to the spigot next to the institutes research pier.

Now that's pretty cool! So you can just rock up and fill your buckets?
Yup. And then park the car up the hill and get in the water and explore the tide pools and sanctuary.

The lowest it has gone down to is 10.6. My ato of course pumps RODI water so that might bring the alk down a bit?

Replacing evaporated water with RO/DI doesn't decrease alkalinity except to drop it back to where it was before any water evaporated.

Pure water out then pure water back: no net effect on anything. :)

It's a big filter for NSW (natural sea water)

Fascinating! Thanks for the explanation. Even if we had anything like that in the UK it certainly wouldn't be free!

Anyhoo, back to the original topic, I use d-d h2ocean salt. Always been very happy with it.
