im about to upsize and dont want to use the sand (or much of it) from my old system. what is everyone using? i dont want anything that will float around if stirred up.

Also, has anyone put anything under there sand bed (ie: egg crate, acrylic, etc...) so the rock work wont sit directly on the glass.

Thanks

Tropic Eden Reeflakes. Love the stuff and had Caribsea before. Minimal, if any, rinsing required. I've got eggcrate at the bottom of my tank to help keep rockwork stable.

Tropic Eden is much better than Caribsea, but its also much more expensive. From my experience, Tropic Eden is smoother to the touch (actual grains of sand feel like they're polished. Almost like the feeling of running your hands through rice), whiter in color, and MOST important, literally rinses clear after a light rinse. If funds aren't a factor, I would definitely recommend Tropic Eden.

my next tank will be a mix of Aragonite and fine sand..

I used tropic Eden reef flakes. I did not rinse. Didn't need to. It's that clean. I used eggcrate under the scape for stability. I have used fiji pink live sand in other tanks and liked that as well. IMO the reef flakes are the best by far.

Thanks for the responses. just want to confirm this is what your referring to Caribsea.

That is what I have in all 3 of my tanks, been using the stuff for about 10 years now, give or take. Works great, my Vortex pumps don't blow it around, but is small enough for my sandbed dwelling anemones and my goby/shrimp pair.

Can use the "pods" and zoas for size reference.
