I’m going to be setting up a 29 gallon tank soon and was wondering what type of sand I should use. Dry or live are fine. I want a sand that won’t get blow around with medium strength current, but doesn’t contain large pieces such as crushed coral. I can’t have bare bottom as I want a sand sifting gobie in the future. My budget is around $45 for 40lbs.
thanks a lot.

I like the regular caribsea. If you lived near me id give you a few boxes

I would say Fiji pink live sand would be best. This also depends on how much flow you really want as well. But Fiji pink is a medium course sand no large crushed pieces.

Doesn’t the regular Carib sea have some big pieces of crushed coral.

Nope. Here's a pic of what it looks like new. Def not that white anymore

The Fiji pink is quite expensive might go with ocean direct.

Caribsea special grade is my choice. Can find the aragalive version for pretty cheap on some online retailers or even chewy.com

I think I’m going with the Carib sea ocean direct. It is on sale right now, and offers small grain size for the gobie and large grain sizes so that it doesn’t move around.

I got my Caribsea live fiji pink from Petco recently: $23 for 20lbs mailed. I may have gotten lucky with a sale they were having at the time, but it's worth a look.

It is finely crushed coral correct? Not sand.

Basically. It's aragonite not play or pool sand. Looks good, sifters can do their thing, & it doesn't blow around. You can't beat it for the price. Everyone has their own preferences though.

I’ll consider it. Last question. Does it look and feel sandy?
