Alright... Well my tank is going on 18 months of active life right now. It has been fairly stable, and I haven't added much in the last month or so, aside from a MiniMaxi Carpet anemone. I have a half dozen blue chromis, a blue tang, a royal gramma, and a yellow watchmen goby, with a tiger pistol shrimp. I also have a coral banded shrimp... I have a variety of corals growing and a lot of sponges around that seem to be doing well, along with some clams and tunicates.

It is a 90 gallon tank...

I am looking to liven things up a bit.

Any suggestions? I was considering a blue spotted ray, but I imagine that will eat everything. What cool, interesting fish or creatures could I potentially, safely get?

Maybe another 40 pounds of holey live rock?

But I'm a rock fan, so there's that.

200+ pounds in a 75. Easy filtration and lots of sleeping holes for our (too many) fish.

But anyway, what type (size !) of fish were you thinking of.
The blue tang should be ok for at least a year in that tank, but probably not too much longer.

Are you planning a 200 gallon, 6'+ system later?

A few of the smaller butterflies would be beautiful. Not sure what corals you have. Maybe a single pyramid butterfly? They are the most likely to be reef safe.

If you started with a small copperband that is already eating well at the LFS, it should do ok in that tank.

Tiny gobies are cool, no/minimal bioload. Really disappear in our tank except for feeding time.

Several colorful wrasse!

Flame or longnose hawkfish?

Oh crap! I didn't actually realize that the blue tang grows that large! It was one of the first fish I got. I imagine my LFS would buy him back tho when he got larger.

I saw a Panther Grouper, and a Banded Serpent Starfish which my girl seemed to really like, so I was wondering if those would be decent. Also, I know they are brackish water, but Silver Sharks or Green Spotted Puffers...? Probably not a good idea.

Thank you for the other suggestions. I will look into a copperband. Seeming that I have been able to maintain the tank in a very stable manner, perhaps I can handle that.

As for the live rock, believe it or not there is about 200lbs in there, plus another 100lbs of rock under the sand to help support what is above the sand. I have been thinking of filling up the back more however. But likely will do so with clean rock. Not live rock.

Panther Groupers are a bad idea they get up to like 2 feet long and they will eat whatever they can. You should check out some fish online like on liveaquaria and get a better idea of what you could get. I'm not trying to come off as rude when I say this but most of your suggestions would end up very badly for the rest of your tank inhabitants, although a serpent star wouldn't be a problem at all.

You should look into some reef safe wrasses, most of them would be a good fit for your tank. Very interesting and some of the most colorful fish you can get. A midas blenny would be really cool too.

Flame hawks are fun and they add a great pop of red. They can be a little aggressive though, so if you add one do it towards the end of your stocking.

You can't go wrong with reef safe wrasses either. In a 90 gal the choices are wide open. Melanarus and yellow coris are beautiful and have the added bonus of eating pests *usually*.

Sand sifting gobies are fun too, although some people don't like the way they move sand around, sometimes onto your corals. I like the way mine keep the sand clean.

Whatever you choose, make sure you research it thoroughly first. Live Aquaria provides short, informative write ups to get you started.
