hey reefers,
so long story shot my 20L in is bad shape I was doing a macro algae tank. but I got a really bad out break of red hair algae been going on now for 6 months...

my 90 reef needs some love as well. my mother passed and I have been traveling so just monthly water changes there need to get my ATS fired up and going.

also I am setting up a 40br FW planted tank...

so now that things are a bit settled down I am wondering what I should do with my 20L keep it going? tire it down or make another simple FW planted tank? so many options..

tank specs are:
20L
AC 50 with intank media basket
nemo light
small jebo wave maker- MP10 know off
special reef grade sand
I started with LR but for some reason it bleached out :(

I have about 30# of nice real reef LR for a Seahorse build I was thinking of doing but then decided I could not comment to the live food feeding 2x a day. so its in my sump of the 90.

was thinking of a fresh restart of the 20L maybe try another macro tank? or a shroom and rock/mini max tank?

right now its just a hairy mess did lights out for a few weeks it did go away but once lights where back on after a cpl days it came back. so I dont think saving it is possible or worth the effort.

dont want to many tank projects but I do like this little nano and have all the equipment so.....
what should I do with it?

thoughts & feedback?

I like 20l, but used one of mine for a sump of my 40g and my other is my qt. If you want to stick with reef, I would go with shroom or rock nem tank. Easy and less maintenance. Plus with this you could do some cool algae too. Reds and greens. Just a thought.

Just make sure you have the time. That is the only reason I have never tried. Just do not have the time needed for them. Plus I vacation too much. :) Good Luck and hope to see a build.

Why not just frag the macro and start over?

I had some macro tanks get over-run with pest algae (due to my own neglect) and would just frag the macro off, toss anything covered in too much pest algae. Then dip the rocks in tank water/hydrogen peroxide for 10 min, replace and run some phosphate remover to pick up the PO4 being released from the dying algae.

I guess I could have done that a while ago I tossed most of the macro as it was just to much covered :( I have a few rics and shroms and a feather duster I am worres will carry over the nasty algae..
macro are a fun challenge but once pest algae hits there not much you can do if you lower the no4 etc. then the plats start to fade away.

I almost added an AST when it 1st started maybe I should have. now a restart is the only way I see.
i'll see if I can find some pics on my phone.
