Updated pictureWithout knowing the True Dimensions, I can't be certain if your sump is too small. For a 45 gallon system, it looks big enough. I have a 55 gallon and it looks like a similar water load
With so much salt creep, it's difficult to see what is in there. I do not see a fiber filter or a biological medium, such as Bio Balls, ceramic blocks, or such.
