What should I do with this?

I have this sump that was made out of a wet dry filter. It has 2 protein skimmers, pump, 2 filter sock holder and a float switch. It was originally had an external motor. I plan on adding some baffles to this so I can had a refugium. Should I keep the external motor or go with an internal pump? What would be the best set up for this?

I believe the internal motor is used for the two skimmers so u would need both and internal and external pump. That's a very interesting sump

Well if I was u I would remove the skimmer section make that it fuge get a new skimmer add a couple bubble plates after the skimmer section and then either run an external or internal pump as u can do both with the set up u have there.

It also looks like ur missing a part that connects from the mag pump to the top pvc elk horn looking thing

I have the piece that connects the pump to the skimmers. I just took everything a part. Going to redo everything with new plumbing. I would like to keep the skimmers now since I've never seen a set up like this and I'd like to see how well it works

Well I had a wet dry with kind of the same thing only it was one skimmer instead of two and it was so so at best. But urs could be different and I hope it is for ur sake.
So how does it work it seems like the water drains into the skimmer section from the tank then flows over the top into the other section the thing I'd be worried about is the skimmers skimming the same water over and over with that set up.

To be honest I have no idea how it works. It came with the tank I picked up.

I agree with you about skinning the same water. If I decided to go with another skimmer set up so you think I could modify this wet dry to work for what I need (protein skimmer, filter socks, refugium) or should I try to sell it and get a true sump set up

Here is my suggestion
Red - Add Baffel
Blue - Return Pump
Pink - Cap off
Black - Remove -(protein skimmers and top...also cut down the 1st baffel)
Yellow - Light for fuge
Add skimmer and filter sock into 1st compartment.

Thanks! I am much more a visual person. What would go where the protein skimmers are now? How far would you cut down the first baffle?

Ah I would just switch the fuge idea and put that where the skimmers are only because it would be easier to adjust the water height for the skimmer with the baffle. Make the baffle an inch higher then the height the skimmer is supposed to be.
