hi I have no local fish shop near me. I want to get a new tank but I do not know what to get. I want a nano all coral tank around 20 gallon. do these size tanks come pre drilled so I can do a sump? do I have to drill? what tank should I get to drill or pre drilled preferred. all I have now is a cheap 40g breader tank from Petco on the floor wit no sump because I do not have many local options. I have to drive a hour In a half and that was the best I could get. soooo any and all suggestions for a second tank would be awesome. thank you

40 breeders make fantastic reef tanks. There are A LOT of us on here with them. It is very easy to drill a tank and I am sure there are people on here near you that would be happy to help with it.

if you want a 20 gallon Id recommend one of the following it your looking for prebuilt
  • aqua one mini reef 120
  • Red Sea Reefer Nano but this dosnt have a sump its a AIO you would have to go with a 170 to get a below tank sump
  • Waterbox marine 35.1

You can order a tank online like a IM20, IM25 Lagoon, or IM30 and so on which is an all in one and has a filter compartment in the back. They also have the EXT line that is drilled so you can hook it up to a sump.

Waterbox is also popular.

You could also just drill the 40 breeder yourself.

There is about a billion options in the 20g range of varying prices and dimensions. Just pick one you like the dimensions of.

I have a IM25 Lagoon because I wanted a shallow cube because it is a easy dimension to get light coverage and good flow in. Also they have a lot of add-on options for filters and UV or skimmers and so on since IM makes a lot of different products.

You might want to check out the nano-reef forum, there are lots of build threads for small systems and you may get some ideas. If you have the room, you can definitely put together a nice system from tanks you can acquire from your local Petco. As another poster mentioned, you can easily drill the 40B tanks from there, and you can build a nice stand with the 40B on top and a 20g sump underneath. There are lots of 40B build threads on R2R. Here's the nano forum:

Better yet, if you are able to take pdxmonkeyboy up on his offer, go that route!

does this have a sump under it!? looks amazing.

I will check them out I have not explored that section yet thank you. my breeder 40 is not tempered I don't think attest so it might shatter.

IME 40 breeders are NOT tempered, so shattering is not a concern. If you are worried about it there is a way to use a laptop and a pair of polarized sunglasses to see if it is tempered. There are videos on youtube showing how to check.

Whatever you do, don't take the advice from a local reefer looking to lend a hand.
I am sorry I did not see you post! I feel bad. I live about 4-5 hours one way away from p town. but I am willing to drive that once I make a choice on what I am going to do. this might not be any time soon since I blew to much at cherry coral live sale. I will fallow you =] thank you for the help.

Im a bit confused here. Why is a local reefer wanting to lend a hand a bad thing?
I was to intel I looked back thought thread and realized he was lending a helping hand. wow I feel like a dummy... not seeing it before

I've never been to nowhere but if your in the Oregon area and not a member of the PNWMAS your making a mistake! Tons of great local connections to be made

what is PNWMAS? you have spiked my intrest quit a bit I have zero people I know that even remotely have a fish tank.

Dude, follow the link, make an account and say hi. There are some solid members in the wilamette valley in addition to portland and the coast.

Plus if you can make it to a meeting you can get frags for dirt cheap or free... and make a trip to cuttlefish, THE best coral shop in the PNW hands down.

Pacific northwest marine aquarium society.
