Just got a big shipment of corals in and decided to try a lugols dip on the zoas after my standard koral MD dip. I've read that the standard lugols dip for the Kent Marine formulation is 40 drops per gallon. Scaled down, I figured then you could use 5 drops per 1/8 gallon (16oz). Thing is, following that metric, the solution I ended up with is pretty much colorless, nothing like these YouTube videos where these dudes are basically making the water the color of coffee.
I don't have the Kent's lugols, I have a slightly weaker 2% solution off Amazon. Even when I scaled the dosage up to match the Kent directions (I.e 12 drops for 16 oz), I still had a pretty much colorless cup of water. What gives? Did I somehow fudge the math? Wonder if they mislabeled the concentration. It did look a bit lighter than the povidone I remember from the first aid kit.

I make it a tea color. I do the same with acriflavin baths and make them a yellowish-orange.
