I have a 220 gallon mixed reef and am wondering what you guys would add if you had my set-up.

Current stock:

Achilles Tang
Sailfin Tang
Yellow Tang
Falco Hawkfish
Coral Beauty Angelfish
4 Clownfish
Canary Blenny
Algae Blenny
Melanarus Wrasse

What did you have in mind? It looks like a good mix. Although the tang police might have something to say, but what the heck, they give me a hard time also.

Just my 2 cents but I might add some more wrasse or a blue throat trigger

Ya I pretty much figured I would get some greef about the tangs but I don't want to add anymore large fish. I was thinking maybe a school of Anthias or some more wrasses.

I have a 300 with a similar stock list except I have quite a few more fish. I think the tangs will be fine by the way since it's a 220. Some fairy wrasses and perhaps one of the more docile triggers would be a great addition. I love my niger trigger.

Thanks for the reply. I am definitely considering more wrasses. And I have always been nervous about adding a trigger to a reef tank.

IME triggers can be hit or miss but if you start off with a smaller specimen it can definitely improve your chances for success. My niger is tank boss, but he doesn't mess with any inverts and he hasn't hurt any other inhabitants. Also, you can never go wrong with the fairy wrasses. I haven't had any luck with anthias so I'm not much help there.

My biggest fear is them getting a taste for coral. The invert thing doesn't bother me because my Melanarus Wrasse already prevents me from having a lot of shrimp and such.

Most triggers are coral safe. They can be aggressive and eat inverts that's why most are considered not reef safe. Just do your research before you purchase any new fish and you'll be good. Good thing is with a tank that size you have lots of choices. Good luck man!

Ok thanks for the help. I have always though triggers had a cool personality and swimming style. I will research some of them.

Few ideas are:
Larger fairy wrasses or a school of bolder anthias.
Basslet( black cap or Swalesi) for the rockwork.
Panama barnacle blenny
Large shrimpgoby and shrimp

I would go with some Anthias. I have a 220 as well and added a school a few months back. One has already gone male, they get along well with all the other fish and are also very pretty and active. My current stock is:
Niger Trigger
Clown Trigger
Yellow Tang
Hippo Tang
Mated Perc Clowns
4 Lyretail Anthias
3 Firefish
Mandarin Goby
Six Line Wrasse (has the most aggressive personality in the tank believe it or not).

Always nice to share stock lists with folks of similar size tanks!

Thanks for the response. After talking with tj w on here and doing some research I decided to get a blue throat trigger for my tank along with a pair of firefish and a sleeper goby to help sift my sand. I have always found triggers to be very interesting creatures and will enjoy watching one grow in my tank.

I am still contemplating putting in a group of anthias. I am thinking 4. And that would probably be my last fish addition to the tank unless I can find some rarer wrasses such as the Rhomboid or lineatus.
