Hey everyone, this morning my female black clownfish passed away, and the male is still healthy and happy. So my question is should I re-pair the cown with a new one? Or do I leave him by himself and do other things such as an anemone and other different kinds of fish?

I do like clownfish pairs, but I've personally never had great success with 2, and 1 always seems to work out better. I was thinking a couple damsels, but I don't really know.

I also was wondering how becoming a female would actually work for him, seeing as he's now by himself.

Thanks

Your call to repair or not. They do just fine in singles or pairs. If it takes time to get a clown to pair it with then make sure to get the smallest possible clown fish u find to.mqximize pairing success.

I don’t know how large your tank is, but a few additional fish would probably work. I like azure damsels, pajama or banggai cardinals, blue or green chromis and midas blennies.
It's a 45 gallon. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into those fish. I had thought about chromis but I've heard mixed reviews and also heard they need more space then a 45.

Chromis? They’re a schooling fish, reasonably inexpensive and fairly peaceful. They don’t get very big and I’ve had them in tanks as small as 12 gallons. I would probably get at least 2. Anthias are another popular fish for reef tanks.

My bad, I was referring to anthias. I blanked on the name lol.

Not so sure your living male clown would have any reason to change into a female unless a smaller, submissive clown was introduced. It may stay a male or revert back to neutral.
Anthias are great. Feed at least twice a day. Good luck. :)

When my clown's mate died unexpectedly, he didnt leave his nem for months. I added a new mate and he came right out and started swimming around again.
