Hello,
Okay please be nice to me with this question :). I'm mixing my first batch of saltwater. I'm using Red Sea Coral Pro. I'm reading the salinity should be around 1.021 (on BRS site) The PH is reading around 8.2 on the new batch of. Should the salinity be higher? Its 1.026 in my tank now. Thank you all so much! I've asked many questions. Everyone has been so helpful.

I am curious as to where on BRS you are seeing 1.021?
I mix my water for 24 hours and make sure it reads the same as my Tank water.

That is for size of the container

Wow, I am sooo happy I just looked at this thread.... last week, my salinity was low. 1.022... I am using a reverse osmosis auto top off system. It continuously puts fresh water in my tank... I started doing some manual top offs with saltwater... and today I measured my salinity and got 1.026!

(cheesy grin) I was a little embarrassed by hitting 1.026... i thought it was supposed to be 1.025... I couldn’t figure out why it was “high”

wow this thread just made me feel good!

Everyone else has hit it on the money, you are shooting for 1.026 regardless of tank size. They are just basing their measurements on a lower salinity for an estimate on how much water you can make when you buy that bucket of salt.

Your salinity at 1.025 is fine. Many people run their tanks at 1.025 and it makes no difference. Corals will adapt to slightly lower salinity without a problem. You just don't want to have rapid changes.
In any case this is a very small difference and not an issue if it fluctuates between those two numbers.

I think the biggest concern when i mix water is try to get the salinity and temp as close as possible to your tank water.
