What size grain sand should I use for a jawfish?

I know I need small pieces of shell and live rock for him, but what size grain of sand will I need?

I have had many jawfish all of which did fine with just normal live sand. Little shells and other sorts come in the bag so he can take those and build his opening. I have noticed if you find any little rocks or anything and put them in front of the hole, the jawfish will usually grab it and put it wherever looks best lol
