What size plumbing?

With the bean animal what's the purpose of the small tubing on one of the drains? Does anyone want to explain how to install the bean Animal piping?

There are three lines: full siphon, open channel, and dry emergency. The open channel gets that line, which allows it to have a small amount of water flowing down the walls of the pipe while there is a column of air in the center. One then routes that line into their overflow so that should water become elevated, such as during startup or if clogged, it can convert to a full siphon and keep the water at a safe level. One perk: it will create a periodic flushing sound in case of an emergency as it converts to a wide open siphon, drains the overflow, then goes back to open channel until the water level rises again.

OK that makes alot of sence. That's what my goal will be as soon as I start with the drilling and plumbing. Bulkheads are not that cheap either. I would need 2 for the returns, 3 for the drain and 2 for going through the tank into the back. 7 in total. Anyone know where I can get a good price on them? But First thing will be to make the slim ghost overflow box.

Set up an account at bulkreefsupply.com - you can get your bulkheads there but more importantly check out there free videos on setting up a tank which should be invaluable to you.

My 90G had 1" drains and 3/4" returns. My 266G has 1.5" drains and 3/4" returns.

I'd say a 1" drain with a gate valve and 3/4" return would be just fine for a 55G.
When you say 3/4 return are you talking about the 3/4 pvc with the thin wall or the standard home depot thick wall pipes?
