What size pump is needed for a wet dry sump for a 55 gallon tank?

There's no one right answer without knowing what's going on with the rest of your plans for the tank, but 3-4 "tank turnovers per hour" is considered adequate for all common filtration methods. This would mean 200-300 gph of actual throughput is all you should really need. It depends heavily on your plumbing and other factors, but in most cases this means a pump rated for 500-600 gph.

In-tank waterflow is usually handled as a seperate concern, FYI.

How Much head pressure will the pump be pushing?
What is the goal of the tank? Fowler, Mixed reef, sps, planted
Do you have a skimmer? if so what size?

a mag5, maxijet1800 are good fit for 55g tank.

I would agree with the mag 5 they are nice pumps. Just make sure your return and sump can handle the volume you plan on putting throug it.

An Eheim 1262 would work nicely as well
