10 years or more ago, i started a 75 gal reef and fish tank, with no experience, as you can imagine it did not go well, and i soon abandoned it. I have recently got the bug again. Thought i would join here and do internet research and start with a smaller tank, after looking around a 30gal water box aio sounds good, thoughts,oh, and thinking reef and fish.

I think that sounds like good tank I think the aio is a goof beginning set up all in one. The bug can bit hard sometimes lolwelcome

What kind of corals and fish would you like to keep? A 30G is pretty limited on stocking options fish wise but as long as you're aware of that in advance it's all good. I usually suggest steering clear of the AIOs due to there limited equipment options but that doesn't mean they aren't good or anything like that. There are tons of successful AIOs out there. If I had a chance to start over knowing what I know now I'd probably shoot for a tank in the 50-75 Gallon range, something like Innovative Marines 50 Lagoon EXT or 75 EXT are fantastic options. They are certainly more expensive but will probably last you a lot longer than the 30 AIO and they offer a lot more Aqua Scape and livestock options.

Bigger tanks are always better to control water parameters. Don’t get me wrong though smaller tanks are awesome too. Just remember the smaller it is the more maintenance it is.

"Dilution is the Solution to Pollution"

Larger tanks will give you more leeway when dealing with issues. Something dies in a small tank it will pollute that small body of water much faster.

Always trade-offs though. Water changes can be more if a pain with bigger tanks. Lighting more space will cost more, ect. But personally I think it's worth it.

Bio Cube 32 gal always a winner otherwise All-in-one (AIO) 30-50 gals will serve you well and are very easy to maintain in the terms of maintenance.
