What skimmer are y'all rocking?

Curious to know what skimmer are you fine folks using on your 200-300 gallon systems?

as i set up and order the plumbing parts for my 200/275 peninsula fish only tank. I am questions my plan of under skimming and rocking the large fuge + ATS if I need.

something nice about knowing you are covered from the get go. and most likely a skimmer upgrade will happen at some point.

You will get answers based on user satisfaction and popularity. Ive been thru many types especially owning an LFS and trying many.

IceCap K3 (using currently and what a quiet/dependable unit)

Also good:

Vertex (out of business but you can find them used)
Bubble Magnus

Don't laugh, but I saw a Your Choice Aquatics DC 20 on sale ($80 off) at Aquacave rated for 400 gal, so I bought it for 125gal. No problems with getting is going, and I am running it at 60% and it fills 1/2 collection cup a week.

Reef Octopus Regal 250INT 10" Skimmer in a 280 gallon.

My new tank is still relatively new, but it has really impressed me with it's consistency so far.

Still usi g an old school ATI BM250 still a workhorse. I'm sure that newer ones are slightly better and possibly more efficient but

back in the day I had a 240 for a while before I moved rocked the old school aqua C huges skimmers seemed to work great tho.

i'll look int the icecap K3 did not even give them a thought. so good to hear you like them.

Old school Bubble Magus BM160 External Recirculating. I don't understand why more people don't run recirculating skimmers. Matter of fact, I talked to two major suppliers recently who both told me they hadn't sold a recirculating skimmer in years!

Not really into brands but I prefer the recirculating style where the water intake is separate from the “bubbler” pump. Water feed from the return pump, bubbler pump outside of the skimmer body. You set it and forget it, unaffected by water level in the sump.

That said maybe I am into brands because last I checked the only options are Reef Oct and Regal which are the same company.

The one thing I don’t like is my reef octopus version is impossible to clean because it can be used external from sump, leak tight means it’s glued together and I can’t separate the bottom of the skimmer from the tube to clean it out.
