My tank is fairly new and this green algae has taken off in the last week or so it’s more green as you can see is this algae or the diatom stage? Top view of tank btw

Its the start of something, thats for sure.

For me the diatoms were brown with bubbles and mostly in the sand.

After cycling I went from diatoms, to cyano, to green hair which im currently battling now...

lol yeah it’s taking off! My lights were just out on and it’s going crazy I had a price of live Fiji rock to seed the tank as you can see out once them lights ran for a week or so it started growing this!

It does happen quick! Diatoms only lasted a week or 2 and a small CUC cleaned it up. Then cyano was another week or 2. That was reddish and blew off with a turkey baster. Now GHA. 2 weeks and a PITA to go away. Upped the CUC to manage it and its staying level. I just want it gone.

Im going the all natual route though, not going to revert to chemicals. I did decrease my lighting time and intensity and im not over feeding.

I’m doing exactly what you are doing going to let it play out the natural way!

If it’s lime green, could be beginning stages of coralline. Mine did that, then converted to the more classic pink/purple.

Assuming you have source of coralline in the tank...

My rocks changed color, wholesale, probably two or three times.. first to that green color, then to yellow, then to a lightish brown. Thankfully, coralline covers them now and they're purple/pink. I was told it's a sign of the rock maturing and coming to life... a good thing.

Generally in a new tank and presence of bright lights, this algae will form. Reducing whites aso reduces the green if that makes sense?
its green Coraline algea as we sometimes dont get the purple and pinks that we desire or commonly see.
