What started your reef addiction

For me it was a combo of the lack of interesting critters in the freshwater world and my LFS started carrying sw fish. I actually had a brackish tank before I got into sw. Once the LFS got in a seahorse and a few nudibranch's I was hooked...

I actually had no interest or even had even put thought as to whether or not I would ever love such a hobby, What got me though was about a month ago me and my fiance went to Pensacola beach, while there as I'm sure everyone that goes does this but we brought back some sand and shells off of the beach, only for souvenir purposes, so while trying to think of how to put the pieces of paradise on display the idea came to me with no clue of what i was getting into nor anything about it. BUT I'M STILL OVERLY EXCITED ABOUT IT AND CANT WAIT TO SHARE MY SUCCESSES WITH THE PEOPLE HERE ON THE GREATEST FORUM EVER!

The 1st giant clam I had seen was in 1988 and it was a T. derasa. I watched it for about an hour in amazement and in disbelief that such an animal could exsist... I was absolutely HOOKED from that point and I still sit in front of my tank (for hours at a time) and just stare at it in silence and awe.

It was actually fresh water. I always had fresh water tanks till a neighbor that worked for large saltwater fish distributor suggested saltwater. He hooked me up and been hooked ever since.

I had a 6+ year old freshwater tank that I lost due to a heater that stuck on. My wife said "Why don't you do a saltwater tank?" I'll bet she regrets saying that now!

swam before i walked, dove before i could drive, and had a saltwater tank by highschool...half way through marine bio degree at UM...i'd say birth is why i got into this hobby
