The longest lasting submersible pumps I have seen ( been in the hobby 35+ years ) absolutely has to be Mag pumps.
I have a couple that are part time pumps and they are 15 years or better.
They are not the quietest pumps, but they are a serious work horse.

I agree with these comments totally, and I would also add that the mag drives foot print is generally as small as I’ve see for the water they move.

The Tunze DC. It’s a customized Sicce that is controllable, has great flow, and comes with suction cups that make it very quiet.

Could be wrong but I've been under the impression that controllable DC pumps are not known for their longevity.
Score me for another Magdrive vote, nearly bullet proof!

My LFS Switched out all his mag drives to Simplicity DC and cut his energy bill in half. He also mentioned they don't make them like they used to, I'll just leave it there.
Lots of options. I would do two overflows and sumps, one a refugium and one mechanical/chemical. Best of luck

So says the LFS owner as he tries to sell you a new return pump.;) just kidding of course.
In all seriousness, I doubt anyone makes a product like they used to.

That's my point ;) I also seen the crates of used pumps for sale. It also speaks of his frugal nature of buying a cheaper
Brand of pump to replace his old ones. I personally would have used Octo-pumps. My skimmer been running almost 3 years and I see no degraded performance. My main return is an M2 and I also have several smaller sicce.
Lots of good quiet efficient stuff out there, not to mention adjustable.

are you looking for a single pump solution or going to run multiple pumps?
I rather wanna keep only one return pump at a time inside the sump.

Jeez I can’t believe nobody said Jebao / jecod. I’ve used one for years. Dead quite and great on power and super affordable. I’ve had a few on different systems and never had a problem with any of them.
