I'm thinking about getting a tablet to mount for an Apex display. I was thinking maybe just a cheapo from amazon.com. Are there any minimum specs I should watch out for? I'm planning to just mount this bad boy next to the tank, so it won't be used for anything other than Apex and perhaps my reef link.

I was thinking about maybe an Amazon Fire tablet (I can get one for like $30 used).

I'm also interested in this. I'm planning on adding an apex soon and have an old nook tablet that operates but never gets used that I hope would work. It seems reasonable that any tablet that can run a browser efficiently should work well as an apex display. Hard to beat $30 if it with do the job.

I use a Samsung tab 4. It is a little more costly but I use it for other things as well. It's a nice investment

But I actually already have a really nice tablet, so this will ONLY be for the apex.

I just got my apex and getting it going I was thinking doing the same. maybe if I can find a reason, besides looks cool and techie. I mean we all have smart phones these days. but I was thinking for when i go out of town and have a tank setter. and if I do a feed moad they can just push a button. but keep in mind they could mess things up to...

anyway I will test the fire tomorrow and let you know what i think. not sure if I have the HD or non HD

I got me one of the cheapo amazon fire tablets, in orange :-P ,works perfect.

How do you guys deal with the login timeout on the apex? that's the only thing that annoys me about the fire is sometimes it logs itself out after some sort of timeout and i have to manually log it back in. First world problem, but whatever :-)

When Terrence put out the video about using the Amazon Fire tablet as a display, I immediately went out and bought 2 of them to use on each of my Apex's. I set one up and started trying to use it. It's ok. But then Neptune Systems launched a new iPhone app, which is much better. I 100% use the iPhone app on my iPhone 7 plus. I am thinking about getting an iPad mini or regular iPad just to have it mounted next to my tanks. Having the iPhone app just makes it easier and faster to login. To me as often as I'm logging into fusion, it just makes it more convenient.

I've asked Terrence if they plan on making an app for the Amazon Fire since they endorsed it as a display and the answer was no. There were no plans to make any Android based app.

In short if you don't have an iPhone or iPad and have never used the Apex Fusion app, then you don't know what your missing so the Amazon Fire is fine.

I don't seem to have that issue, maybe a couple times when rebooting network equipment. I just saved the login so just have to refresh the page and hit login button. Always stays up for me for the most part.

Same here, but I'm just tired of logging back in every few days. It's honestly more complicated for my wife for some reason (like feed schedules and such) or anyone else that is tank sitting for me. Wasn't sure if anyone discovered a way to change the login timeout. seems like it's every few days i have to do it.

iPad 2 - older model I had laying around the house, it has the 30 pin power plug. I am about to pull it out from under my cabinet and give it to one of my kids. I don't see it inside there, much fast for me to use my phone. The battery has been dead on it for awhile now! hahaha

both of my old ipads are currently in the hands of the kids. Maybe I'll upgrade one of theirs and stick the old one above the tank and trash the fire. The price was right for the fire, just usability is eh.
